Mike Kijewski
Mike Kijewski is a cofounder and CEO of MedCrypt, a healthcare software company focused on improving cybersecurity in medical devices. Many medical devices are used for 10 to 15 years, and rarely have their software updated. When these devices are connected to the internet or hospital networks, it gives hackers the ability to infiltrate patients data, or potentially even change the way these devices function. MedCrypt has created a series of software tools that can be integrated into the device at the time they are manufactured, making it easy to apply security updates when they become available, and monitor the devices’ activity for malicious behavior. MedCrypt is backed by Safeguard Scientifics, LRV Health, Eniac Ventures, Sway Ventures, and a group of angel investors with experience in the healthcare, security, and IoT spaces.
Prior to founding MedCrypt, Mike was a cofounder of Gamma Basics, a company started while a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. Gamma Basics aimed to solve a series of workflow problems in radiation oncology, including the analysis of radiation exposure in hospital oncology departments, and the analysis of quality assurance data related to radiation oncology equipment. Gamma Basics was acquired by Varian Medical Systems in 2013.
Prior to Gamma Basics, Mike was a high school physics teacher in the Downingtown Area School District in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
Mike holds a BS in physics from the West Chester University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Medical Physics (MMP) from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the Wharton School with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Healthcare Management.
