SUMMARY:Healthcare Compliance: Emerging Trends for Risk Management

Gamma Basics aimed to solve a series of workflow problems in radiation oncology\, including the analysis of radiation exposure in hospital oncology departments\, and the analysis of quality assurance data related to radiation oncology equipment. Gamma Basics was acquired by Varian Medical Systems in 2013. \nPrior to Gamma Basics\, Mike was a high school physics teacher in the Downingtown Area School District in Downingtown\, Pennsylvania. \nMike holds a BS in physics from the West Chester University of Pennsylvania\, a Master of Medical Physics (MMP) from the University of Pennsylvania\, and an MBA from the Wharton School with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Healthcare Management. \n  \nChristopher Cuellar \nChristopher Cuellar joined Elevate ENT Partners as the Vice President of Compliance and Chief Compliance Officer in 2023. In his professional career\, he has handled negotiations with government regulatory agencies\, medical malpractice litigation matters\, physician contracting issues\, quality of care-related concerns\, and implementing the 7 elements of an effective Compliance program for his previous organizations. His passion is working with motivated healthcare operational leaders to attain operational excellence through high-reliability practices in an ethical and compliant framework. \nHe received his Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (HIM) and has his Juris Doctorate (JD) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Florida International University. He also currently works as an adjunct professor for both FIU and FAU\, teaching courses in healthcare finance\, human resources\, and the legal aspects of healthcare for both Master in Healthcare Administration programs. He is nationally certified in health care compliance (CHC)\, health care privacy (CHPC)\, and risk management (CPHRM). \nChris is passionate about serving and giving back to his community. He has logged hundreds of hours volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Miami\, the Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade County\, and as a national member of the American Hospital Association’s ASHRM Board of Ethics Committee. In his free time\, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son\, playing golf\, reading\, and traveling the world. \n  \nLisa Shannon \nLisa D. Shannon\, JD\, BSN\, RN\, CPHRM\, ARM\, FACHE is a registered nurse and licensed attorney with over 30 years of healthcare related experience. SUMMARY:Interdependence of Public\, Private\, & Federal Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dynamic virtual panel via Zoom! The event is approved for 1.5 virtual interactive educational credits!\n\n\nThe traditional boundaries between Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare delivery have become more permeable as healthcare regulations and requirements have changed. The beneficiary population can no longer be considered as belonging to its system alone. Patients seeks services outside healthcare systems for many reasons\, including access\, capacity\, and cost. Traditionally\, migration between healthcare systems would be discouraged through financial measures or by threat of disenrollment. Today healthcare systems rely on each other to provide services that they cannot provide for financial\, geographical or accessibility reasons. \nThe Veterans Administration and Department of Defense both rely on partnerships with public and private healthcare systems to provide care to Veterans\, Service Members\, and their dependents beyond the capability of the Federal system. Likewise\, public and private healthcare systems enter into affiliation agreements with Federal sector healthcare systems for academic and research-based support. \nThrough this discussion\, participants will gain an understanding of the complexities related to documentation of episodes of care\, reimbursement for completed care\, and information technology challenges; the interoperability and cooperation of Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare Systems during natural or manmade disasters; and the future of Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare Delivery as it relates to the continued homogenization of their respective patient populations. \n \nThis event is approved for 1.5 ACHE Virtual Interactive Credits! \n**Please note: ALL ATTENDEES must register for this event using the link above. SUMMARY:Networking & Educational Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-person happy hour and panel conversation on Change Management in Healthcare & Alternate Care Models!\n\n\nJoin us for an evening of networking and education at The Founder’s Inn in Virginia Beach\, VA. This event will include two interactive education topics\, along with dinner\, and networking with other healthcare leaders across Hampton Roads. \nAgenda \n3:30-4:30pm Networking Happy Hour \n4:30-6:00pm Educational Panel 1: Alternative Care Models \n6:00 – 6:30pm Dinner \n6:30-8:00pm Educational Panel 2: Leading Change \n8:00-8:30pm Networking & Program Closing \n \nValue in Developing Alternative Care Models \nDeveloping new delivery models that embrace alternative payment models goes beyond simply supplying patients with information at time of checkout or discharge. It includes a commitment to patient-centered care\, providing clear and useful information to patients\, helping patients establish goals and plans to live a healthier life\, creating a team of clinicians and administrative staff with clearly understood roles and responsibilities\, and using comprehensive systems to support follow-up and tracking of patients. As healthcare moves increasingly outside the four walls of the hospital\, it is critical that healthcare executives are well-versed in the opportunities and challenges with alternative care delivery models. Learning how to incorporate these new models into a health system or practice can support patients as well as healthcare organizations. \nPanel Members: \nAlex Ritchie\, Administrative Fellow\, Sentara Health (Moderator) \nDavid Collins\, Senior Manager of Home & Community Services\, VCU Health \nMary Morin\, Senior Vice President & Enterprise Chief Nursing Officer\, Sentara Health \nRobin Baldauf\, Chief Nursing Offier Hampton Roads Market\, Bon Secours Mercy Health \n \nSuccessfully Leading Change \nThe healthcare environment is constantly changing\, and provider organizations must adapt in order to survive and thrive. Organizations are frequently asked to respond to legislative changes\, market fluctuations\, safety concerns\, and patient or staff demands. The success of major change implementation hinges on how it communicated and how it impacts individuals and processes in the organization. Stakeholders frequently resist change for many reasons\, including not having enough information\, fear of how the change will affect them\, comfort with the status quo\, and not understanding the benefits of the change. For change to truly be effective\, a leader must know how to effectively communicate the benefits\, minimize the barriers\, and describe the processes. Learn from your peers as they share approaches that were successful and those that impeded the change process. \nPanel Members: \nNiesha Townsend\, Associate Director Administration\, U.S. Navy (Moderator) \nJack Warburton\, Vice President Mental Health Services\, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters \nKelsie Stephenson\, Chief Market HR Strategic Partner\, Bon Secours Mercy Health \nKirk Hansen\, Director Organizational Change Management\, Sentara Health \n \nThis program has been developed and is presented locally by the Healthcare Administrators of Tidewater. The American College of Healthcare Executives has awarded 3.0 ACHE In Person Education Credits to this program. For questions about the program\, please visit HCATidewater.com and utilize the “Contact Us” page.

SUMMARY:Inclusive Leadership in Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Join the Virginia Chapters of ACHE\, NAHSE\, And NALHE for a FREE virtual panel conversation on Inclusive Leadership in Healthcare!\n\n\nWith the increasing emphasis on comprehensive diversity\, equity and inclusion initiatives targeted toward improving patient access and outcomes\, there is a critical need for healthcare leadership to turn their lens internally to make the biggest impact. Even with the best of intentions\, many hospitals and health systems are falling short in embodying the very principles and approaches they are promoting for their patients and communities. \nIn addition\, the business implications and imperatives healthcare organizations face concerning diversity\, equity\, and inclusion are immense. Diverse communities often require different care needs\, improved quality\, new or modified operational processes and services\, and strategic planning for a varied patient demographic. The continuum of care will need to be considered to best meet the needs of these communities. It is incumbent on healthcare organizations and their leaders to both understand and embrace the needs of diverse populations. As such\, inclusive leadership will be critical to the organization’s financial and operational success. \nModerator: Melody Pannell\, Director of Diversity & Community Engagement\, UVA Health \nPanelist: \nDr. Kia Dunbar-Harris\, Vice President of Clinical Care Solutions\, Sentara Health \nSilvia Garcia-Romero\, Director of Diversity & Inclusion\, Sentara Health \nToiya Sosa\, AVP\, Chief Diversity Office\, Riverside Health System \n \nTwo-Step Registration Required! \nJoin us for a virtual panel conversation via Zoom. SUMMARY:Equity of Care
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-person event featuring an interactive community service food drive and a meaningful panel discussion on Equity of Care!\n\n\nEvent sponsored by Sentara Leigh Hospital! \nOverview \nQuality of care should not vary based on the patients’ socioeconomic\, racial\, ethnic\, gender\, or geographic background. It is known however\, that there is a healthcare divide in the U.S. especially in vulnerable populations including: those lacking health insurance (or are underfunded)\, low-income families\, racial and ethnic minorities\, and LGBTQ+ populations. The Affordable Care Act aimed to address access and equity of care issues by expanding health insurance coverage. Deficits in access to care change the way healthcare is delivered and financed. \nEquity of care is a core principle of the healthcare management profession and is also an ethical and business imperative. Healthcare organizations must ensure their staff is educated on disparities to appropriately address the needs of patients from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds to provide equitable high-quality care to all. It has been shown that patient-centered care improves clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction while reducing medical errors and costs. Eliminating healthcare disparities provides a strategic component to ensure organizational excellence and long-term financial viability. \n \nLocation \nSentara Leigh Hospital \n830 Kempsville Road\, Norfolk\, VA\, 23502 \nPlease park in the designated Visitor Parking areas.
