SUMMARY:Volunteer with Sleep in Heavenly Peace
DESCRIPTION:Help HCAT build 50 beds for children in need in our community!\n\n\nSleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is hosting their Bunks Across America 2024 event and need our assistance to provide 50 beds to children without our community. Research shows to children who sleep on the floor are more likely to experience negative outcomes\, including in health and education. SHP helps to address that need\, by finding sponsors and building and transporting the beds themselves. \nNever built anything? No experience is needed! You must wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing. All equipment and training will be provided. \nThe event starts at 0930 and will end when all 50 beds are built\, so we do not anticipate going the entire day. Want to bring your teenager to help? Bring them along! \nParking is in the school parking lot and check-in is in the main front entrance by the flagpole. \nPlease note: we have reserved 10 guest spots\, so only sign-up if you are certain you can attend. \nACHE members: this can count towards your volunteer events needed for FACHE (cert or recert). \nFor questions\, please contact the HCAT volunteer coordinator (Kim) at kimbot@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Networking & Educational Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-person happy hour and panel conversation on Change Management in Healthcare & Alternate Care Models!\n\n\nJoin us for an evening of networking and education at The Founder’s Inn in Virginia Beach\, VA. This event will include two interactive education topics\, along with dinner\, and networking with other healthcare leaders across Hampton Roads. \nAgenda \n3:30-4:30pm Networking Happy Hour \n4:30-6:00pm Educational Panel 1: Alternative Care Models \n6:00 – 6:30pm Dinner \n6:30-8:00pm Educational Panel 2: Leading Change \n8:00-8:30pm Networking & Program Closing \n \nValue in Developing Alternative Care Models \nDeveloping new delivery models that embrace alternative payment models goes beyond simply supplying patients with information at time of checkout or discharge. It includes a commitment to patient-centered care\, providing clear and useful information to patients\, helping patients establish goals and plans to live a healthier life\, creating a team of clinicians and administrative staff with clearly understood roles and responsibilities\, and using comprehensive systems to support follow-up and tracking of patients. As healthcare moves increasingly outside the four walls of the hospital\, it is critical that healthcare executives are well-versed in the opportunities and challenges with alternative care delivery models. Learning how to incorporate these new models into a health system or practice can support patients as well as healthcare organizations. \nPanel Members: \nAlex Ritchie\, Administrative Fellow\, Sentara Health (Moderator) \nDavid Collins\, Senior Manager of Home & Community Services\, VCU Health \nMary Morin\, Senior Vice President & Enterprise Chief Nursing Officer\, Sentara Health \nRobin Baldauf\, Chief Nursing Offier Hampton Roads Market\, Bon Secours Mercy Health \n \nSuccessfully Leading Change \nThe healthcare environment is constantly changing\, and provider organizations must adapt in order to survive and thrive. Organizations are frequently asked to respond to legislative changes\, market fluctuations\, safety concerns\, and patient or staff demands. The success of major change implementation hinges on how it communicated and how it impacts individuals and processes in the organization. Stakeholders frequently resist change for many reasons\, including not having enough information\, fear of how the change will affect them\, comfort with the status quo\, and not understanding the benefits of the change. For change to truly be effective\, a leader must know how to effectively communicate the benefits\, minimize the barriers\, and describe the processes. Learn from your peers as they share approaches that were successful and those that impeded the change process. \nPanel Members: \nNiesha Townsend\, Associate Director Administration\, U.S. Navy (Moderator) \nJack Warburton\, Vice President Mental Health Services\, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters \nKelsie Stephenson\, Chief Market HR Strategic Partner\, Bon Secours Mercy Health \nKirk Hansen\, Director Organizational Change Management\, Sentara Health \n \nThis program has been developed and is presented locally by the Healthcare Administrators of Tidewater. The American College of Healthcare Executives has awarded 3.0 ACHE In Person Education Credits to this program. For questions about the program\, please visit HCATidewater.com and utilize the “Contact Us” page.

SUMMARY:Inclusive Leadership in Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Join the Virginia Chapters of ACHE\, NAHSE\, And NALHE for a FREE virtual panel conversation on Inclusive Leadership in Healthcare!\n\n\nWith the increasing emphasis on comprehensive diversity\, equity and inclusion initiatives targeted toward improving patient access and outcomes\, there is a critical need for healthcare leadership to turn their lens internally to make the biggest impact. Even with the best of intentions\, many hospitals and health systems are falling short in embodying the very principles and approaches they are promoting for their patients and communities. \nIn addition\, the business implications and imperatives healthcare organizations face concerning diversity\, equity\, and inclusion are immense. Diverse communities often require different care needs\, improved quality\, new or modified operational processes and services\, and strategic planning for a varied patient demographic. The continuum of care will need to be considered to best meet the needs of these communities. It is incumbent on healthcare organizations and their leaders to both understand and embrace the needs of diverse populations. As such\, inclusive leadership will be critical to the organization’s financial and operational success. \nModerator: Melody Pannell\, Director of Diversity & Community Engagement\, UVA Health \nPanelist: \nDr. Kia Dunbar-Harris\, Vice President of Clinical Care Solutions\, Sentara Health \nSilvia Garcia-Romero\, Director of Diversity & Inclusion\, Sentara Health \nToiya Sosa\, AVP\, Chief Diversity Office\, Riverside Health System \n \nTwo-Step Registration Required! \nJoin us for a virtual panel conversation via Zoom. This is a free event! The educational session will offer 1.5 education credits. In order to receive ACHE education credits\, you must also register with the ACHE at \nhttps://account.ache.org/eweb/DynamicPage.aspx?Reg_evt_key=e78613ed-9647-4e9b-935f-f1501593fb44&WebCode=EvtRedirectorTL&site=ACHE

SUMMARY:Equity of Care
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-person event featuring an interactive community service food drive and a meaningful panel discussion on Equity of Care!\n\n\nEvent sponsored by Sentara Leigh Hospital! \nOverview \nQuality of care should not vary based on the patients’ socioeconomic\, racial\, ethnic\, gender\, or geographic background. It is known however\, that there is a healthcare divide in the U.S. especially in vulnerable populations including: those lacking health insurance (or are underfunded)\, low-income families\, racial and ethnic minorities\, and LGBTQ+ populations. The Affordable Care Act aimed to address access and equity of care issues by expanding health insurance coverage. Deficits in access to care change the way healthcare is delivered and financed. \nEquity of care is a core principle of the healthcare management profession and is also an ethical and business imperative. Healthcare organizations must ensure their staff is educated on disparities to appropriately address the needs of patients from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds to provide equitable high-quality care to all. It has been shown that patient-centered care improves clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction while reducing medical errors and costs. Eliminating healthcare disparities provides a strategic component to ensure organizational excellence and long-term financial viability. \n \nLocation \nSentara Leigh Hospital \n830 Kempsville Road\, Norfolk\, VA\, 23502 \nPlease park in the designated Visitor Parking areas. Photo ID is required for entry into the hospital. SUMMARY:Gender Equity in Healthcare Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Join HCAT and The VA Chapter of Women in Healthcare for a virtual educational event on Gender Equity in Healthcare Leadership.\n\n\nIn the US healthcare industry\, women represent 65 percent of the workforce. Despite their significant workforce representation\, they are under-represented in leadership – only making up 30 percent of C-suite teams and 13 percent of CEOs. Several studies have shown that diversity produces better outcomes – more innovation\, more creative solutions to problems\, and ultimately better financial outcomes. Women bring in a critical vantage point to the industry and according to one study; women comprise 25 percent of the leadership among the highest grossing hospitals and medical centers as compared to 18 percent for the industry. Efforts to improve women representation in the senior ranks of healthcare management must include women from all backgrounds and experiences. When intersectionality considerations are incorporated into gender equity strategies\, organizations can reap tangible\, proven benefits including better talent recruitment and retention\, stronger DEI outcomes\, and improved organizational performance. \n  \nSpeakers: \nDr. Amber Price\, President\, Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center \nDr. Shanta Bland\, Performance Improvement Program Manager\, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System \nStephanie Ross\, MHA\, Program Manager UNOS \n  \nEarn 1.5 Qualified Education credits with ACHE! \nAfter the event\, attendees will be given instructions on self-reporting Qualified credits. Pre-event registration through ACHE is not required.

SUMMARY:Meeting the Needs of Today's Healthcare Consumer
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Healthcare Administrators of Tidewater ACHE chapter for an educational event on healthcare consumerism!\n\n\nConsumer-driven services in business and the need for efficiency are accelerating changes in the way organizations operate and compete. Many consumers today are taking greater control of their purchasing power and healthcare decisions and are demanding excellence in service. Organizational survival relies on healthcare leaders with the vision\, determination\, and courage to test various methods of enhancing the patient experience. Patient expectations are being set by other industries and healthcare disrupters like retail clinics. How can hospitals and health systems provide the same level of customer service to stay competitive? \n  \nVirtual Event\, Thursday February 29th from 5:30pm-7:00pm. \n  \nThis event is approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-To-Face Credits! \n  \nPanel Speakers: \nJamisson Fowler\, SVP Chief Digital Officer\, Sentara Health \nSally Ryan\, VP/COO\, Riverside Health Medical Group \nRaina McLaughlin\, Director Patient Experience & Culturally Effective Care\, CHKD \n  \nPlease note- all of our chapter education events require a 2-step registration process.  \n  \nStep 1– Register and submit payment for your ticket via Eventbrite at the link provided.
